The Fredericton Black Kats stomped the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo 82-33. The Pulamoo included Olivia Barry, Laura Richard.
The Riverview Royals clubbed the Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 73-51 as Gabrielle Robin scored 26 and Kate Lund 13. Jen McTague paced the Crusaders with 20. Emily Nicholson added 9. In the semis, the Fredericton Black Kats throttled the Moncton Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders 72-42 as Emily McLeod scored 21, Emily Hazlett 14 and Laura Kaye 14. Alysha Bulman led the Highlanders with 9. Tess McNally added 8.
In the other semi, the Riverview Royals clipped the Fredericton Leo Hayes Lions 74-62 as Gabrielle Robin scored 22 and Holly Jones 12. Nicole Lafleur led the Lions with 16. Morgan McGregor added 11.
In the final, the Fredericton Black Kats dusted the Riverview Royals 68-47 after leading 22-12, 45-19 and 54-35 at the quarters. “I’m so emotional right now,” game MVP Laura Kaye told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “We worked so hard to get to this point. It just feels so good. We played so hard defensively as a team.” Black Kats coach Rick Cotter said “it’s been six years since our school’s been at the Final 12, so it’s a special occasion. I just feel so happy for this group. They’re so dedicated. They worked so hard during the spring, fall and winter to make this happen.” The Black Kats trailed 10-9 early but Kay notched 7 to lead a Fredericton 13-2 run to end the opening quarter with the Black Kats on top 22-12. The Kats contained the Royals to just 7 points in the second quarter while building a 45-19 lead at the half. Led by Katie Lund’s eight-point quarter, Riverview started the second half on a 10-1 run capped by a Holly Jones three that drew the Royals to within 46-29. Lund was chosen game MVP for the Royals. Laura Kaye paced the Black Kats with 19 on 9-15 from the floor, 1-4 from the line, 5 boards and 6 assists. Amy Appleby scored 14 on 5-7 from the floor, 4-4 from the line, 14 boards and 2 assists. Emily MacLeod added 13 on 6-16 from the floor, 1-1 from the line, 9 boards and 3 assists. Emily Hazlet added 7 on 3-9 from the floor, 1-2 from the line, 2 boards and 11 assists.
