The Grand Manan Breakers defeated the Minto Memorial Tigers x-x.
The Grand Falls John Caldwell Golden Knights defeated the Boiestown Upper Miramichi Boas x-x. The Boas included Shane Fairley, Shane Price, Kris Bailey.
In the last quarterfinal, the Campobello Island Consolidated Vikings defeated the Sunny Corner North & South Esk Cobras 52-46. The Cobras included Nathan Ecker, Tyson Phillips.
In the semis, the Grand Manan Breakers thumped the Grand Falls John Caldwell Golden Knights 87-70 as Shannon Green scored 23, Kyle Roode 14, Curtis Fitzsimmons 13 and Tristan Russell 10. Kevin Duffie led the Golden Knights with 34.
In the other semi, the Campobello Island Consolidated Vikings edged the McAdam Warriors 90-88 as Justin Searles scored 27, Nathaniel Case 27 and Tyler Anthony 18. Ryan Osborne led the Warriors with 24. Patrick Blair added 21, Adam MacDonald 18, Jeremy Dear 11 and Jordan Nason 11.
In the final, the Grand Manan Breakers defeated the Campobello Island Consolidated Vikings 79-63 to capture their fifth provincial title. Colton Wilson paced the Breakers with 24. Kyle Roode added 22, along with 11 boards, Rubyn Russell 10, Curtis Fitzsimmons 4, along with 11 boards. Grand Manan outrebounded the Vikings 47-34. Justin Searles paced Campobello with 16. Nathaniel Case added 15, Edward Matthews 10, Justin Tinker 9 and Tyler Anthony 9. The rivals kept it reasonably tight in the first half as Campobello shot .410 from the field while holding the Breakers under 30 per cent. After inching ahead 42-35 at the half, the Breakers hit 16-29 from the field in the second half and 4-5 from the line to outscore Campobello 37-28 in the final 20 minutes. Campobello closed the gap to five points with less than nine minutes remaining but an 8-0 by the Breakers clinched the title. In all there were four ties and seven lead changes. The game was a meeting of the past four provincial A boy’s champions. Grand Manan won the title in 1999 and 2003 to accompany titles in 1990 and 1994. Campobello earned championship banners in 2001 and 2002. Frank Russell was chosen New Brunswick boys’ basketball coach of the year. Russell told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that he felt “relief” at the final buzzer. “This is my fourth year here, and I haven’t had a pretty one yet. When you come in highly favoured like we were, it takes some of the shine off. We’re more relieved.” Colton Wilson said “it feels good to win another one, and hopefully more to come. “It wasn’t really a surprise, I guess. We pressed the whole game and wore them down. At the first it was a little rough, but we came around.”
