In the interzone playoffs, the Ste. Anne Lynx edged the Winnipeg Joseph Wolinsky Raiders 41-36.
In the quarterfinals, held in Niverville, the top-seeded Warren Wildcats thumped the 8th-seeded host Panthers 80-35.
The 5th-seeded Boissevain Broncos edged the 4th-seeded Ste. Anne Lynx 43-39. The Lynx (coached by Denis Marinell) included Michelle Braithwaite.
The 2nd-seeded Carman Cougars defeated the 7th-seeded Cross Lake Otter Nelson River Otters 65-47.
In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Altona W.C. Miller Aces defeated the 6th-seeded Roblin Goose Lake Raiders 61-29.
In the semis, the top-seeded Warren Wildcats clipped the 5th-seeded Boissevain Broncos 68-22. “That was probably one of the best games we’ve played all season,” said coach Ken Overby.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Carman Cougars defeated the 3rd-seeded Altona W.C. Miller Aces 40-31.
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Altona W.C. Miller Aces smacked the 5th-seeded Boissevain Broncos 57-37. The Broncos included Erin Ransom.
In the final, the top-seeded Warren Wildcats defeated the 2nd-seeded Carman Cougars 61-49 to capture their second consecutive provincial crown. The Wildcats led 14-10 after one quarter and then shifted in a full-court press to build a 30-20 lead at the half. They led 51-37 after three quarters. Point guard Oksana Banias distributed the ball with aplomb, while Heather McRae scored 23. “When it’s all over and we got it, ahhh,” co-coach Randy Lasuik told the Stonewall Argus and Teulon Times. “It makes it feel all the more worthwhile for the season to wrap it up like this. We had a close mix of girls who were a very unselfish bunch.”
