In the wildcard game, the Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans edged the Portage Trojans 56-52 after rallying from an 8-point fourth quarter deficit. Lisa Nagorski paced the Spartans with 38. “I’m quite happy,” Spartans coach Larry Rodenbush told the Brandon Sun. “Portage is a pretty good team and they’re bigger than us. We decided to run at them and they basically couldn’t keep up with Lisa.” Dionne Williams added 8. Mavis McRae and Marci McLeod each scored 12 to pace the Trotters.
In the quarterfinals, held in Steinbach, the 5th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers dusted the 4th-seeded host Sabres 64-50. The Tigers led 34-32 at the half. The Sabres (coach Don Cooper, manager Jenn Braun, manager Teresa Rempel) included Teri Taylor, Melanie Peterson, Hong Trinh, Renelda Friesen, Khamp Pathammavong (Pathammovong?), Bonita Rempel, Colleen Rempel, Fran Farrell, Heather Loeppky, Krista Martens, Lisa Reimer, Lori-Anne Fehr, Edna Friesen, Rhond Friesen and Trinh Thi.
The top-seeded Elie St. Paul’s Barons crushed the 8th-seeded Virden Golden Bears 90-54. The Golden Bears included Lori Earls, Christy Wilton, Colleen Duncan, Dana Hanson, Libby Sneff, Marcee Chacun, Tracy Hillier and Vicky Skelton.
The 7th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans stunned the 2nd-seeded Warren Wildcats 56-42 as Dionne Williams scored 17 and Lisa Nagorski 16. The Wildcats (coach Ken Overby) included Sandy Spicer, Leanne Johnson, Heather Brotherston, Laurie (Lori?) Irwin, Heather Hickman, Heather Major, Kim Fisher, Leanne Palmer, Marni Motron and Wanda Ruth.
In the last quarterfinal, the 6th-seeded The Pas Margaret Barbour Spartans stunned the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg St. John’s Ravenscourt Eagles 54-51. The Eagles (coached by Jody [Angela?] Dyck) included Leigh Stevenson, Leanne Zrum, Emma Robinson, Gillian Sanders, Nicola Bishop, Sarah Young, Naomi de Graaf, Kristen Wittman, Elaine Beare, Chrissy Rokanas (Kokonos?) and Nicole Degrais (Reid?).
In the semis, the top-seeded Elie St. Paul’s Barons crushed the 5th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers 73-59.
In the other semi, the 6th-seeded The Pas Margaret Barbour Spartans dusted the 7th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans 63-47. The Spartans opened with a 12-0 run and romped. Jody Rock paced Barbour with 16. Lisa Nagorski led Neelin with 23. Jennifer Hoyland added 16. Barbour led 34-25 at the half.
In the bronze medal match, the 7th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans smacked the 5th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers 73-59 as Lisa Nagorski scored 26, Jen Hoyland 16 and Kathie Nairne 12. The Spartans led 40-29 at the half. Dayna Gordon led the Tigers with 18. The Tigers (coached by Mona Morrison, managed by Marnie Clark, Deanna Mullin, Andrea Grant, staff supervisor Byron Ross) also included Carla (Darla?) Norman, Lori Bage, Darlah (Dariah?)
