The Kodiaks led 8-5 at the quarter and 26-12 at the half. The Panthers led 29-28 at the three-quarter mark. River East coach Dick Blais told the Winnipeg Free Press that the key was having three go-to players in Cheryl Cote, Patti Douglas and Sue Thompson. “We knew they used a 2-3 zone defence, and so we worked the ball inside. And when they double-teamed Patti, we went to Sue outside. Sue hit 3 or 4 buckets in a row which drew them away from Patti and then we would go back to her. When both were covered, we could go to Cheryl.” Cote scored 10, Thompson 8 and Douglas 7. Cote noted that in the final quarter “we just worked together began fast breaking.” Mary Slater led the Panthers with 14. Lois Stiff added 12.
