In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Winnipeg Dakota Lancers crushed the 8th-seeded Selkirk Lord Selkirk Regional Royals 61-29. The Royals (coached by Al Fenske) included Donna Posnick, Liza Clemons, Patti Reid, Nadine Sinclair, Karen Hurley, Barb Johnson, Kathy Van Mol, Marg Drewlo, Terri Dear, Wendy Gutowski, Liza Lippoway.
The 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Westwood Warriors stomped the 7th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans 47-33 after leading 18-9 at the half. “We would have made it a far closer game except we were 5-22 from the line,” Spartans coach George Clark told the Brandon Sun. Cathy Chown led the Spartans with 14. The Spartans (coached by George Clark) also included Laurie King, Vanda Hewins, Laurie McCallum.
The 4th-seeded Winnipeg Louis Riel Rebels clipped the 5th-seeded Winnipeg Sisler Spartans 39-29. The Spartans included Susan James, Maureen Ostry, Barb Diduck, Debbie Tynes.
In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg River East Kodiaks edged the 6th-seeded Winnipeg Grant Park Pirates 34-31. The Pirates (coach Jack Hunt, manager Mike Williams, manager Maureen Buttassy) included Juelie Duncan, Gail Neufeld, Linda Rewick, Ellen Fleishman, Brenda MacCharles, Teresa Dubowec, Helen Maksym and Julie Mingotti.
In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Dakota Lancers clocked the 4th-seeded Winnipeg Louis Riel Rebels 52-39 as Lucy Burdz scored 16 and Joanne DeWildt 13. Claire Joyal led the Rebels with 12, while Lisa Vermette nabbed 15 boards.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg River East Kodiaks nipped the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Westwood Warriors 40-39 as Helen Dahl scored 15 and Sue Borofski 13. Kathy Miller led the Warriors with 13.
In the bronze medal match, the 4th-seeded Winnipeg Louis Riel Rebels nipped the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Westwood Warriors 40-38. The Warriors (coached by Addy Ryngach) included Jo-Anne Wier, Karen Klassen, Kathy Miller, Donna Hagen, Barb Cullen, Diane Fredericton.
In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Dakota Lancers defeated the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg River East Kodiaks 47-22 as Joanne DeWildt scored 15 and Yvette Milner 12. Sue Borofski led the Kodiaks with 8. “Our height was the big advantage,” said coach Dennis Alvestad. “But they (River East) never gave up. I give them credit.” The Lancers outrebounded the Kodiaks 40-23, while leading 14-2, 24-10 and 36-15 at the quarters.
