In the quarterfinals, the Niverville Panthers defeated the Carberry Cougars 68-54. Mark Bain was chosen MVP for the Panthers, while Mike Shaw was chosen MVP for the Cougars.
The Boissevain Broncos defeated the Grunthal Green Valley Pirates 71-61. Mike Rainnie was chosen MVP for the Broncos, while Thomas Goertzen was chosen MVP for Green Valley.
The top-seeded Teulon Saints defeated the Carman Cougars 68-61 in overtime. “We didn’t expect that game to be so close and that’s probably why it was,” coach Derek Cook told the Teulon Times. Carman led by two with two minutes of play. “They missed a lay-up with two seconds left that would’ve won them the game,” Cook said. “It definitely was a bit of a wake-up call. It was pretty nerve-wracking.” Justin Hurd was chosen MVP for the Saints, while Jamie Brown was chosen MVP for Carman. The Cougars also included Felipe Knobffleisch, Ian Cox, Eric Smith, Bryce McDonald.
In the last quarterfinal, the Ste. Anne Lynx defeated the Roblin Goose Lake Raiders 62-50. Roger Ste. Marie was chosen MVP for the Lynx, while Matt Baranowski was chosen MVP for the Raiders. The Raiders (coached by Brant Neufeld) also included Andrew Baranowski, Mike Bulbuck.
In the semis, the top-seeded Teulon Saints defeated the Boissevain Broncos 61-34. “We were up by eight points at the half and then we really pulled away,” coach Derek Cook told the Stonewall Argus & Teulon Times. Justin Hurd was chosen MVP for Teulon. Mike Rainnie was chosen MVP for Boissevain.
In the other semi, the Ste. Anne Lynx defeated the Niverville Spartans 66-49. Corye Larocque was chosen MVP for the Lynx, while Mark Bain was chosen MVP for the Panthers.
In the bronze medal match, the Niverville Panthers defeated the Boissevain Broncos 82-69. Mark Bain was chosen MVP for the Panthers, while Randy Lilley was chosen MVP for the Broncos. The Broncos (coached by Mike McCallum) also included Mike Rainnie, Kevin Smith, Tyler Reeve.
In the final, the top-seeded Teulon Saints defeated the Ste. Anne Lynx 71-49. Seve Backe was chosen MVP for the Saints, while Roger St. Marie and Corye Larocque were chosen MVPs for the Lynx. The win was the Saint’s 26th consecutive. “We proved we are one of the best teams in the province,” coach Derek Cook told the Teulon Times. Tournament MVP Jason Hurd is “always there for us. But (point guard) Seve Backe played great for the whole tournament and was named to the all-star team. Matt Phill was also very strong and played excellently on defense all weekend. We were up a ton by half-time (30 points) and we kind of coasted from there. Seve had 25 points by the half and ended up with 30 for the game. You always want it to be exciting and it’s nice when it’s closer, but it’s great to win and prove you’re one of the better teams there. They’re a great all-round team and there are only eight player – it’s a small team.”
