In their opener, Canada defeated Uruguay 80-69 after leading 40-28 at the half. Rowan Barrett and Deon George each scored 12 to pace Canada.

In the medal round, Canada defeated Brazil 84-81 as Steve Nash and Michael Meeks keyed a second-half rally from a 46-39 halftime deficit. Meeks finished with 24 points and nine rebounds. Nash had 15 points, including six key free throws in the final moments. Keith Vassell added 12 and Deon George 11. Brazil led 46-39 at the half.
The United States thrashed Canada 107-60 as Steve Woodberry and Eddie Jones each scored 15. Othella Harrington added 14, Corliss Williamson 11, Steven Smith 9, Theo Ratliff 9, Monty Williams 9, Cory Alexander 8, Cherokee Parks 6, Bill Curley 5, along with 11 boards, and Joey Brown 4. The US hit 37-67 from the floor, 3-10 from the arc and 30-42 from the line. Keith Vassell and Deon George each scored 13 to pace Canada. Steve Nash added 8, Ken Smith 8, Michael Meeks 5, Norm Froebel 5, Jeff Foreman 3, David Picton 2, Sean Van Koughnett 2 and Brendan Graves 1, while Richard Sullivan and Peter Guarasci were scoreless. Canada hit 16-58 from the floor, 4-15 from the arc and 24-35 from the line. Canada committed 25 turnovers and the US 15. The US led 46-41 at the half and opened the second frame with a 23-4 run. “The biggest thing you immediately notice was our defense early in the second half,” US coach Roy Williams said. “Over the first 11:30 of the second half, we gave up only eight total points and we gave up a total of only 19 points the entire second half. You have to point to that as the key.”
