In the quarterfinals, held in Brandon, the Swan River Swan Valley Tigers clipped the Gimli Lakers 68-54 after leading 20-11, 33-21 and 44-38 at the quarters. Wes Hadikin paced the Tigers with 34. George Stadnick added 21 and Lloyd Lawson 11. Martyn paced the Lakers with 18. Bob Lovatt added 16.
The Steinbach Sabres clocked the Russell Major Pratt Trojans 56-32 after leading 12-5, 22-11 and 42-21 at the quarters. Bernie Hiebert paced the Sabres with 20. Bruce Ray led the Trojans with 11. The Trojans also included Adam Stelanition.
The Morden Mohawks edged the Flin Flon Hapnot Kopper Kings 37-34 after leading 20-11, 19-18 and 26-25 at the quarters. Tim O’Rourke paced the Mohawks with 20. Kim Rach added 13 and Gary Hamm 4. The Kopper Kings included Ralph Brown, Bill Macdonald, Dave Hanna.
In the last quarterfinal, the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings nipped the Rivers Rams 47-44. The Rams led 27-22 at the half and 42-38 after three quarters. Allan Delavau paced the Vikings with 19. Mo McMillan added 8, Ted Gibson 6, Lasby Lowes 5 and Larry Delavau 5. Mel Harvey led the Rams with 17. Bruce Cullen added 8 and Carl Forman 7. The Rams (coached by Mr. Trusewych) also included Bob Herbert, Murray McPherson, Martel, Bob Nance, Reg Bonnell, Harvey Burton.
In the semis, the Morden Mohawks defeated the Steinbach Sabres x-x.
In the other semi, the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings dispatched the Swan River Swan Valley Tigers 39-30. The score was knotted at 8 after one quarter. The Vikings led 21-15 at the half and 30-21 after three quarters.
In the final, the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings defeated the Morden Mohawks 41-38. The Mohawks led 12-9 after one quarter, 22-19 at the half, 33-25 after three quarters and by 34-30 with four minutes to play. But Lasby Lowes and Larry Delavau hit buckets for the Vikings and Lowe gave them the lead with another bucket with a minute to play. Allan Delavau added an insurance bucket with the final seconds. Lasby Lowes paced the Vikings with 15. Larry Delavau added 9 and Mo McMillan 8. Tim O’Rourke led the Mohawks with 18.
