Matt Warren added 12 and Greg Schnell 11. Luke Bergen was chosen player of the game for the Wings, while Cole Dickson earned the laurels for the Spartans. Neelin coach Don Thomson told the Brandon Sun that “let’s face it: We knew that, somewhere along the line, that’s what people had to do to really get us down. Our guard play has improved just immensely over the last two years … and we got some good looks. Our guards have come along so well that those looks have become good looks for them and, you know, they didn’t go in today “ The Wings sat back in a 2-1-2 zone defence most of the game and sagged down in the paint to eliminate Neelin’s biggest threats: Connor Ketchen, Matt Warren and Kirby Sinclair, who picked up three fouls in the first half and had his court time limited. The zone left Neelin’s guards with a number of open looks but the Spartans were inconsistent from the perimeter and, as a result, found themselves down 35-30 at halftime and by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter “We knew they were going to come out with energy, we just knew we had to sustain our energy long enough for their’s to drop off and we just didn’t sustain it long enough,” said guard Cole Dickson who hit three treys and scored 11. “We had a lot of peaks and valleys and their energy just outlasted ours tonight.” The Wings also dominated the offensive boards. “We talked about three things to be successful today and one of them was we had to rebound the ball extremely well,” Thomson said. “We took care of the rebounding in the key really well but our pursuit on the ball that bounced 15, 18 feet, we were second on every three or four. If you’re going to be successful, you’ve gotta be able to do that.”

In the bronze medal match, the top-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans clipped the 6th-seeded Winnipeg Nelson McIntyre Maroons 79-69 as Kirby Sinclair scored 21, Curtis Ives 13, Matt Warren 12 and Mark Jacobson 10. The Spartans ripped off a 9-0 run, including back-to-back treys by Jacobson, early in the second quarter to take command. Matt Mrozek paced McIntyre with 28. Blake Majcher was chosen player of the game for the Spartans, while Mrozek earned the laurels for Nelson McIntyre. “I thought we did a much better job defensively (than in the semis),” Neelin coach Don Thomson told the Brandon Sun. “They’re a tougher match up than Westgate is, just getting the ball and then stopping dribble penetration I thought we defended extremely well for the most part.” Connor Ketchen said “after last night it was rough and we had a long night. But we came out today — especially playing Nelson Mac, a team that beat us… by 25 in January – it gave us that extra motivation to come out and play hard. … The thing we’re most impressed with is the improvement from the end of last year to this year. We grew tremendously.” Thomson said “we’ve talked all along with this group about leaving a footprint and the Neelin family, and they’ve definitely done that. Bronze isn’t what we set out to get and at the same time they left their footprint and that’s exactly what you ask the kids.” The Wolverines (coached by David Day) also included Stanley Bateman, Tyler Van Doorn, Casey Verrier, Ryan Sharman, Josh Mrozek, Matt Moreira, Bryce Anderson, Roger Kebini, Jared Berryman, Tom Nuesister and Anders Giesbrecht.
