Once again, Lauren seemed to be able to hit Juliet posting up strong which led to much frustration from the competition’s bench.         In the final, the 2nd-seeded Langley Christian Lightning dusted the top-seeded West Vancouver Mulgrave Titans 78-64. The Titans led 38-36 but the Lightning began to use their superior size more effectively in the second half. They made 36 trips to the line, compared to Mulgrave’s 16. Grade 11 forward Ali Wergeland was chosen tournament MVP. “Personally, they weren’t my best games; I’ve played better ones,” Wergeland told the Langley Advance. “But as a team we worked really well together. Esther Moerman noted that “I knew I always wanted to be part of those [celebration] circles, jumping up and down at the end. But I didn’t think I’d actually get to participate in that, but our coach had that goal [of winning the B.C. title] in the beginning of the season. As we got closer to it, we worked super hard and got to it.” Guard Sydney Tilstra added that “we have really good team chemistry, and we work really hard together, and no matter what we’re doing, we’re having fun. “I think that is really important. And winning in general, it was just so awesome.” Mulgrave coach Claude Leduc told North Shore News that “we didn’t win gold but it was one heck of journey that both the girls and I will never forget. We are happy with our silver medals. Our returning players — including three of our starters — are looking forward to another shot at gold next year.” Christina Catliff, who was chosen defensive player of the tournament, scored 17, nabbed 15 boards and pilfered 6 balls for the Titans. Emme Lee was chosen player of the game for Mulgrave after scored 16 and nabbing 3 boards. “We didn’t win gold but it was one heck of journey that both the girls and I will never forget,” Mulgrave coach Claude Leduc told the North Shore News. “We are happy with our silver medals.
