        In the semis, the 3rd-seeded Prince George Cedars Christian Eagles upset the 2nd-seeded Abbotsford Christian Knights 80-76, after leading 26-14 after one quarter and 39-29 at the half. The score was knotted at 51 after three quarters. “It was an amazing game, it was back and forth the whole game,” said Eagles coach Randy Strybos. “It came down to the last few possessions to decide it.” Kayla Gordon, a Grade 10 forward, along with Christie Pudlas, a Grade 12 guard, came through for Cedars at the free throw line late in the game when the Wildcats were forced to foul. “We came back and matched them basket-for-basket, 3-pointer-for-3-pointer,” said Strybos. “We made a few buckets and a few free throws near the end. Kayla Gordon sealed it. She had 32 points as the player of the game, one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen.” Pudlas added 20 for the Eagles, while Karly Goertzen scored 14, Courtney Reich 11 and Janene Giesbrecht 3. Nicole Musey, Amy Krauss, Kayla Eby and Alanna MacDonald were scoreless. Viv Veerman paced the Knights with 30.         In the final, the top-seeded Houston Christian Wildcats dusted the 3rd-seeded Prince George Cedars Christian Eagles 75-48 after leading 22-16, 43-28 and 58-40 at the quarters. The Wildcats were led by 6-5 Team B.C. player Ruth Hamblin, who dominated the first half. “We just didn’t have a match-up there that could really take care of her,” Eagles assistant coach Al MacDonald said. “We did everything in the book in order to stop her but she’s just a special player. Apparently, she has even had some [junior] national team interest.” The Eagles stayed with the Wildcats in the first quarter but the Wildcats soon took command. “Their coaches really worked on making sure they’re not just a one-option team,” MacDonald said. “If you had to lose to a team, they were the one to lose to.” MacDonald said having two northern-based teams in the final was “great. Houston is close, and they came to town a couple times [for tournaments]. We have to give a little shout out to the Prince George teams that invited us to their tournaments to help us prepare. That was a cordial thing and much appreciated. … We had a really good run. We’re pretty pleased with the silver medal. It’s special. The girls worked hard and the whole team and the community is pretty proud.” Ruth Hamblin paced the Wildcats with 28. Dani Opdendries added 1, Allison Sienen 13, Marissa DeLege 8, Kelly Ewald 7 and Laura Leffers 3, while Lyndsey Meints, Juanita Dieleman and Sydney Makonichuk were scoreless.
