In the final, the Prince George Cedars Christian Eagles defeated the Whistler Storm 60-47. The Eagles had only 19 girls in grade 11 and 12. Eagles coach Al MacDonald had his brother John win the A boys BC title with the O’Grady Catholic Totems. “It was just a special moment,” Al MacDonald told the Prince George Citizen. “We’ve shared lots over our basketball days but to have our teams both win a championship in the same year in the same place is special.” The Eagles led 26-21 at the half but Tammy Van Helden picked up her fourth foul early in the third quarter. Player of the game Miranda Kenna stepped up and took over the blocks. McDonald told the Prince George Free Press that all season he’d told his troops about climbing mountains. “I said, when you played Duchess Park, that was a big mountain to climb, and when you beat Kelly Road, that was another mountain. So I guess it’s fitting that we beat Whistler, the biggest mountain of all, in the final. … That was disappointing that (star Tammy Van Velden) did get into foul trouble but the rest of team dug deep. I had a ballet dancer turned post player (Sarah Clarke) come in and play solidly.” Kenna and Laura Beeksma each scored 20 for the Eagles, and Sarah Clarke 6, while Nitra Pleska was chosen defensive player of the tournament and Sarah Clarke nabbed 12 boards. Tournament MVP Hanna Resat paced the Storm with 30.
