In the semis, the Victoria Lambrick Park Lions whipped the Surrey Holy Cross Crusaders 82-65 as Andrea Loukas scored 34 and Andrea Tomczyk 17. Lorraine Denis led the Crusaders with 30.
In the other semi, the Port Hardy Whalers nipped the Kelowna K.L.O. Cougars 68-67 as Michelle Williams scored 29. Williams told the Victoria Times-Colonist “we really wanted to win this. Our town is very small and everybody I sbehind us. The highest any Port Hardy team has gotten vefore this was when our boy’s basketball team placed ninth in BC three years ago.” The Cougars led 63-58 with five minutes to play. Williams hit a bucket to knot the score at 63. KLO answered with a pair of buckets. But a trey to draw the Whalers within one with 1:33 to play. She then stole the ball and fed Kari-Lynn Klassen for an easy winning layup with 55 seconds to go.
In the bronze medal match, the Surrey Holy Cross Crusaders defeated the Kelowna K.L.O. Cougars 68-62 as Loraine Denis scored 24 and Trudy DeBoer 21. Delia Enevoldson led the Cougars with 18. The Cougars also included Carina Kruger, Charlene Klasema, Heather Andrews, Kathy Bulatovich.
In the final, the Victoria Lambrick Park Lions whipped the Port Hardy Whalers 75-46 to capture their second consecutive title. Tournament MVP Andrea Loukas paced the Lions with 23. Andrea Tomczyk added 20. The Lions led 10-2 early and 35-26 at the half. Lions coach Rocky Vitale told the Victoria Times-Colonist that “two years ago, nobody had ever heard of our school. Last year, when we won the BC title for the first time, they finally learned to spell our name right. This year, we got respect.” Michelle Williams led the Whalers with 16.
