The 2nd-seeded North Vancouver Windsor Dukes defeated the Revelstoke Avalanche 57-53 as Jen Smallridge scored 20. Kelly Krywa paced the Avalanche with 19. The Avalanche also included Debbie Gauthier, Merle Hainrych.
In the last quarterfinal, the top-seeded Summerland Rockets edged the Victoria St. Michaels University Jaguars 50-48 as Debbie Katryniuk scored 14. Meris Williams led the Jaguars with 25. The Jaguars (coached by Ian Hyde-Lay, assisted by Alan Rees) included Mandy Lewis, Jaimee Clark, Kristen Mant, Jocelyn Keen, Len Warren, Shannon O’Sullivan, Josie Chant, Sandy McInnes, Sarah Crawlay, Margo Leach, Andrea Jung and Jane Rees.
In the semis, the 6th-seeded Aldergrove Totems thrashed the 2nd-seeded North Vancouver Windsor Dukes 56-33 as Cheryl Waines scored 24 and Donna Heppner 13. Jen Smallridge paced the Dukes with 12.
In the other semi, the Prince George Totems upset the top-seeded Summerland Rockets 48-45 as Sylvie Matte scored 24. Michelle Matte hit two critical free throws with seven seconds to play to ice the win. Matte scored 9. Debbie Katryniuk led the Rockets with 21. Totems coach Dave Fulks told the Prince George Citizen that “we were playing a zone. (Katryniuk) was basically setting up in the same spot. In the second half, we forced her. Every time she shot in the second half, we were in her face.”
In the bronze medal match, the North Vancouver Windsor Dukes defeated the Summerland Rockets 47-39 as Marie Vecsey scored 26. Candy Markin paced the Rockets with 8. Liana Klohn added 8. Summerland co-coach (along with Al Ericsson) Dave Fulks told the Abbotsford News “twelve points in a half. How can win with that? I think all the hoopla, media cameras and fans caught up to us. The girls never seemed to relax.”
In the final, the 6th-seeded Aldergrove Totems captured their second provincial crown by defeating the Prince George Totems 40-30. The match was tied at 4-4 after a quarter, Aldergrove took a 14-12 lead at the half but Prince George College rallied to tie the game at 24 at the three-quarter mark. But Aldergrove took control in the fourth quarter outscoring Prince George 16-6. Totems rookie coach Troy Greenfield told the Abbotsford News that “I knew we had a good chance of winning BC’s … It’s really nice to inherit a team once coached by Pat Lee. It sure made my job a lot easier. He deserves a lot of the credit for what’s happened here. Totems forward Cheryl Waines told the Province that the team’s youth seemed a problem early in the game. “We weren’t expecting this. It took us a while to start scoring. We were very nervous but we finally got over it and then game began to go our way.” Cheryl Waines finished with 12, Donna Heppner 12, Kim Green 7, Bonnie McKissack 6 and Sarah Reeves 3. Sylvie Matte paced the Totems with 12. Gloria Katrinchuk added 6, Michelle Matte 4, Elise Johnson 4, Julie Sale 2 and Heidi Madia 2. Prince George coach Dave Fulks told the Prince George Citizen that “we just didn’t play well. That’s the disappointing thing. If you play well and lose, what can you say? But if you don’t play well and lose, that hurts.” Greenfield told the Langley Advance “I knew if we played well we could win. … The team didn’t panic. They took their time.”
