Jewels coach Terry Michell told the Salmon Arm Observor that that his troops played “their best game of the season.” The Jewels led 20-6 after one quarter and 26-24 at the half. Tracy Warman led the Bays with 15. Sandi Smith added 12, Heather Benson 4, Sue Chowen 2 and Cathy Cavin 2. The Bays (coached by Tom Holmes) also included Nancy Jacox, Joan Thomas, Joanne Redmond, Jody Klima, Linda Shorting, Chris Pepperdine and Laurie Russell.

In the semis, the Salmon Arm Jewels defeated the Vancouver Killarney Cougars 39-36 as Val Scafe socred 12 and Lynn Durkee 10. Cheryl Kelsey paced the Cougars with 23. The Cougars led 12-8 after one quarter. The Jewls led 24-20 at the half. The Cougars led 32-31 after three quarters.

        In the other semi, the New Westminster Hyacks defeated the Tsawwassen South Delta Sun Devils 46-43. The Sun Devils led 19-18 at the half. Kathy Materi paced the Hyacks with 16. Shari Claridge led the Sun Devils with 16. Hyacks coach Bob Grant told the Victoria Daily Colonist that “my centre (6-6 Donna Digby) didn’t get any sleep last night.”

        In the bronze medal match, the Vancouver Killarney Cougars defeated the Tsawwassen South Delta Sun Devils 54-37 as Cheryl Kelsey scored 26. The Sun Devils included Leslie Wright, Leslie Sacre, Shari Claridge, Glenna Hazeldine, Kathy Reynolds, Candy Wittenberg.

        In the final, the Salmon Arm Jewels captured their fourth consecutive title with 52-42 victory over the New Westminster Hyacks. Val Scafe led the Jewels with 22. Karen Packalen added 13. The Jewels led 14-12, 31-20 and 52-42 at the quarters. The Hyacks trailed 46-34 but shifted to a full-court press to rally within six. But Scafe stemmed the bleeding with two free throws and the Jewels coasted home. Jewels coach Terry Michell told the Salmon Arm Observor that Jacquie Bouview was exceptional throughout the tournament. “She is the heart of our team.” Donna Digby paced the Hyacks with 26. The crown was the Jewel’s 11th in the tournament’s 20-year history.
