Vriend forced overtime with a free throw with five seconds to play. Brian Stewart led the Sparks with 20.
The Surrey Regent Christian Bible Fellowship Academy Royals clubbed the Sparwood Spartans 120-89. The Spartans included Craig Fairbun, Jagdeu Songha.
The Barriere Cougars stomped Lillooet 63-41 as Jonathan Brady scored 19. Ken McCabe paced Lillooet with 15.
In the last quarterfinal, the 9th-seeded New Aiyansh Nisga’a Chiefs stunned the top-seeded North Vancouver St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints 98-90 as Clint Barton scored 31. The Saints had run up 26 consecutive victories. Dave Bernier paced the Fighting Saints with 38. The Fighting Saints also included Patrick McLewin.
In the semis, the Abbotsford Christian Knights defeated Surrey Regent Christian Academy (then Bible Fellowship Academy) 88-78 as Shawn Bakker scored 22, while nabbing 22 boards. Ray Konynenbelt added 20 and Langelaar 16. The Knights led 27-12 after one quarter. Bible Fellowship, which only had 20 students in its school, was led by Stacey Spralt’s 17.
In the other semi, the Barriere Cougars defeated the New Aiyansh Nisga’a Chiefs 85-78 as Wayne Cochran scored 27. Nisga’a was led by Floyd Stevens’ 24 points.
In the bronze medal match, the New Aiyansh Nisga’a Chiefs defeated the Surrey Regent Christian Bible Fellowship Academy Royals 101-98 in overtime as Floyd Stevens scored 21. Anthony Harnett led the Royals with 27. The Royals also included Stacey Spralt, Robin Munshaw.
In the final, Shawn Bakker scored 20, and nabbed 10 boards, to lead the Abbotsford Christian Knights to a 67-65 win over the Barriere Cougars. Stan Vriend added 17, while Ray Konynenbelt nabbed 11 boards. The Knight sled 23-20 after one quarter. Bakker iced the win with a free throw with 20 secons to play. Knights coach Keith Stewart told the Abbotsford News that the key to the win was the interior defence of Bakker and Konynenbelt. Johnathan Brady paced the Cougars with 23.
