In the semis, the Hope Mustangs defeated the Summerland Rockets 62-57 as Mike Jacobs and Pat Haw each scored 15. Summerland was led by Jack Stanley’s 14 points. Peter Banks added 14.
In the other semi, the Burnaby Alpha Aztecs defeated the Delta Pacers 51-43 as Ron Villaga scored 16 and Greg Tedesco 14. Gerry Richar paced Delta with 13. Steve Lorenz added 11.
In the bronze medal match, the Delta Pacers dispatched the Summerland Rockets 84-69 as Gerry Rochard scored 35 and Steve Lorenz 28. Jack Stanley paced the Rockets with 20. The Rockets also included Dave Klassen.
In the final, the host Hope Mustangs elated home fans by defeating the Burnaby Alpha Aztecs 59-57 in overtime as tournament MVP Mike Jacobs scored 27, including the winning field goal in overtime. Alpha was ahead 39-37 at the three-quarter mark. The game was tied at 51 after regulation play. The teams traded hoops in the extra period until Jacobs grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a short jumper to win the contest. Brian Glennie added 12 for Hope. Alpha was paced by Ron Villaga’s 20 points. It was Hope’s second crown in eight years.
