In the quarterfinals, held in Vanderhoof, the Oliver Southern Okanagan Hornets (then the Oliver Hornets), thrashed the Prince George Duchess Park Condors 92-64. The Hornets led 29-17, 44-22 and 70-40 at the quarters. “We played poorly,” Condors coach Bruce Jansen told the Prince George Citizen. “We weren’t getting inside and started shooting outside and missing.” Condor start John Powers was lost in the first quarter from an ankle injury Gerald Perversoff led the Hornets with 18. Terry Iceton added 17. Al McDonald paced the Condors with 28. Dwayne Washington added 13.

        The Agassiz Chieftains defeated the Midway Boundary Central Roadrunners 47-45. The Chieftains led by double digits for most of the affair but went stone cold in the final frame and had to hang on for the win as the Roadrunners missed three layups in the final two minutes. The Chieftains led 17-9, 30-17 and 43-32 at the quarters. Erich Heppner led the Chieftain with 14. Ray Green added 13. Joe Portelance paced the Roadrunners with 14. John Faminoff added 11.

        The Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Vikings whipped the Invermere David Thompson Lakers 85-59. The Vikings led 21-17, 43-36 and 68-46 at the quarters. Bill Maslechko paced the Vikings with 28. Greg Van Dolah added 28, Nick Pasowisty paced the Lakers with 22. Ron Woods added 17. The Lakers also included Dale Mellwrick.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Hazelton Spartans crushed the Victoria Reynolds Roadrunners 86-64. The Roadrunners built a 20-18 lead after one quarter and extended the margin to 39-34 at the half. But the Spartans rallied behind post George Simpson and perimeter shooting of Bill Maitland and Eugene Gawa. Simpson led the Spartans with 34. Gawa and Maitland each added 16. Bruce Meade paced the Roadrunners with 17. Ross Barnett added 16. The Roadrunners also included Ed Van Dyke, John Horgan, Mike Newman, Reg King, Gary Cook, Damion Tyrelle, Wally McLean, Paul Devlin, Mike Game, Craig Bell and Dave McAra.

In the semis, the Southern Okanagan Hornets defeated the Agassiz Chieftains 59-58 as Terry Iceton hit the winning free throw with one second left on the clock. The Hornet trailed 58-54 with a minute to play.

In the other semi, the Hazelton Spartans defeated the Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Vikings 71-70. The Spartans were led by George Simpson’s 21 points.

In the bronze medal match, the Agassiz Chieftains defeated the Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Vikings 62-59. The Vikings included Greg Van Dolah, Oliver Timmins, Dave Fehr, Brian Fehr, Bill Maslechko, Rob Stephen, Wayne Woods, Jeff Robertson, Wayne Shurtliff.

        In the final, the Oliver Southern Okanagan Hornets defeated Hazelton Spartans 82-73 as Gerald Pereversoff scored 20 and Terry Iceton 19. Hazelton was led by George Simpson’s 35 points.
