Right now, we’re a little disappointed with silver because gold was in our grasp, but you can’t be disappointed with the effort to get here. … We had to fight hard for everything we got. I’m so proud of these girls. … At the start of the season, I thought our short bench was going to be a liability, but it turned out to be a huge asset. Whether it was anyone from Corey [Evans], who didn’t play last year, Catherine [Buethe], Kylie [Dodds] or Mallory [Paige], who came up from junior, or Trish [Laming], who’s been to OFSAA three times, they all handled themselves exceptionally well. … (Laming) put it all out there.” The score was tied 4-4 after one quarter before St. Basil took a 16-15 lead to the half. Rideau led 25-23 lead after three quarters but only scored 7 in the final frame. Rideau led 27-26 with two minutes to play. But Adrianna Bruni nailed a trey and Samantha Rainone converted an and-one as the Saints took a 32-27 lead. Rice said the fourth-quarter offensive woes “hurt us. They were very good defensively. A big part of our game is driving the ball inside to try and create opportunities and we weren’t getting the [foul] calls. A couple calls our way might have the changed the outcome, but I’m not blaming the referee because he wasn’t the deciding factor.”
