Johan Jenkins added 8, Justin Lichach 6 and Carter Small 6. “I think they were expecting us to be a normal No. 14 seed,” Knights coach Don Davis said. “And when I first saw our rankings, I knew that we were ranked pretty low. So I knew that teams, when they came up against us, were maybe going to be a little bit shocked with the calibre of our play. We played well in the first half for sure. We came out and shot the ball well and we rebounded it really well. I think we were a little bit winded in the second half. We didn’t play too much man-to-man because they were double our size. We played a pretty tight zone and they really had a hard time with it. …………………………………………………… The 2nd-seeded St. Catharines Ridley College Tigers dumped the 12th-seeded Collingwood Pretty River Academy Predators 63-50. I didn’t look too good and people (his teammates and coaches) made fun of me that I lost it, so I like to prove them wrong.” The Barons surged to a 22-8 lead five minutes into the game and were able to spread the ball around on offence as 10 players scored at least a basket or a pair of free throws in the win. Barons coach Tim Lowe was able to give his starters — Dussault, Huard, Bedard, Gabriel Rancourt and Tanner Owca — plenty of rest. “In the big picture, the grand scope of things, I think we accomplished everything we needed to do today,” Lowe said. “We wanted to score, we played some solid defence, we pushed the ball, we scored off the fast break, we hit some outside shots which set up things inside and I think we created a little bit of havoc with our trapping. We didn’t rebound offensively as well as I thought we could, but we were hitting shots . . . so it wasn’t a big deal.” …………………………………………………… The 4th-seeded Oakville King’s Christian Cavaliers stomped the 10th-seeded Red Lake District Rams 75-29 after leading 25-7, 43-13 and 60-22 at the quarters. Forster Secondary School and led the team to four straight OFSAA boys’ ‘AA’ basketball quarter-final losses before the team was downgraded to an ‘A’ school this season. “At the beginning of the year, I didn’t foresee any of this,” Osborne said. “The guys did a good job of gelling together . . . even though I didn’t know how good our team was going to be this year. They did a great job. They came together as a group. We’re tiny but we’re fast, so that makes a big difference and our speed make up for a lot of mistakes.” The Spartans limited Tigers star Cooper Rigg to under 25-points, the first time in the tournament anyone was able to do so. “We scouted him,” Osborne said. “We found that everything he did was all to the right, so we took that away and forced him left. It was our speed once again, and quick hands, and we took him out of his game and forced him to do other things that he wasn’t accustom to doing.”
