In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Parkhill North Middlesex Marauders clocked the 8th-seeded Sturgeon Falls Northern Braves 63-39 as Richard Tamminga scored 17. Kevin Gagnon led the Braves with 16. Mitch Gagne added 10. Braves coach told the North Bay Nugget that “Middlesex has a good team. We gave it our best.” The Braves (coached by Dan Gagne) also included Jason Sullivan, Dave Lafleur, Chris Lachance, Jason Ouellette, Andre Rivert, Phil Robitaille, Mike Jodouin, Corey Scarrow and Aaron Manning.
The 4th-seeded Orillia Patrick Fogarty Flames edged the 5th-seeded Deep River Mackenzie Mustangs 37-36 as Carlo Casino scored 13. Bob Urbanic led the Mustangs with 18.
The 2nd-seeded Thorold Monsignor Clancy Crusaders clipped the 7th-seeded Hamilton Hillfield-Strathallan Trojans 52-48 as Ryan Serravalle scored 16 and Rich Ethier 12. Serravale told the St. Catharines Standard that “a lot of things haven’t been going our way but we’ve been hanging in there. We haven’t given up … We were a little shaky tonight when the game was within two but our experienced guys, Rich Ethier, Dan Auger and Graham Bailey, all hit some clutch free throws and then we pulled away.” Taylor Matthew paced the Trojans with 19. The Trojans also included Phil Vayaluymkal, Rick DiMaranis, Stephen Atkinson.
In the last quarterfinal, the 6th-seeded St. Thomas St. Joseph’s Rams stunned the 3rd-seeded Ridgetown District Royals 52-44 as Jeff Rose scored 18. Jim Grozelle and Len Jubenville each scored 10 to pace the Royals.
In the semis, the top-seeded Parkhill North Middlesex Marauders dispatched the 4th-seeded Orillia Patrick Fogarty Flames x-x.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Thorold Monsignor Clancy Crusaders defeated the 6th-seeded St. Thomas St. Joseph’s Rams x-x in overtime as Ryan Serravalle scored 28, Matt Bator 15 and Graham Bailey 15.
In the bronze medal match, the 6th-seeded St. Thomas St. Joseph’s Rams clubbed the 4th-seeded Orillia Patrick Fogarty Flames 66-38 as Jeff DeLeeuw scored 21. Chris Tilley paced the Flames with 11.
In the final, the Parkhill North Middlesex Marauders defeated the 2nd-seeded Thorold Monsignor Clancy Crusaders 58-48 in overtime as Adam Bullock scored 20, Rich Tamminga 18 and Jamie Martelle 18. The Crusaders led 12-8, 22-19 and 37-29 at the quarters. But a four-minute scoring drought allowed the Marauders to knot the score at 38. The Marauders led 45-42 but Crusader Matt Bator nailed a trey with 32 seconds to play to force overtime. The Marauders opened the extra session with an 8-0 run. Ryan Serravale led the Crusaders with 26. Graham Bailey added 8 and Rich Ethier 6. Ethier told the St. Catharines Standard that “probably when look back in a couple of months (the silver medal) will look good but today, it doesn’t feel good to be second best. We tried to come out and give it our best and achieve what we could. But we just couldn’t pull it all together.” Ryan Serravalle said “there’s worse things in life. Some people don’t even have the opportunity. I’m very thankful for the chance … We just ran out of gas. It wasn’t physical. It was emotional. We were drained (after the semi earlier in the day). That first game, we went back to the hotel. We were weak and sore and it took its toll on us.” Crusaders coach Jeff McDonald said “I just feel back for the kids. At least they got to play in the game. Some never make it this far. … They’re a good team and they were full credit for their win. Our kids tried their best and they have nothing to be ashamed of. They didn’t leave anything on the court.” Graham Bailey said “I just wanted to play my heart out and just go after it. The silver is a good accomplishment.”
