People were saying he’s too slow to cover Dyk, so I went to Dean before the game and asked him he wanted to switch to zone instead of having to cover him man-to-man. He said ‘I want him’ so I decided to let him try. In the first half of the game, Dyk couldn’t get started and he took himself out the game mentally. … We right at him. We told Dean just to shoot because going for the stuff every time. Even if the shot was tipped, Dyk was taking himself out of the play and (Andre) Vermette and (jim) Treen were able to just own the boards.” The Blazers held Dave Dyk, who’d been averaging 28 ppg in the tournament to 7.
