Lancers coach Curtis Strueby said “The second (quarter) saw both teams struggle offensively in the first few minutes, however, (we) began to pound the ball inside and score from the paint. … The fourth quarter saw the game slow down. Herbert began to press midway through, however Lake Lenore was able to hold them off with some clutch outside shooting. We really spread our scoring out a lot and played really sound team defence. Anything Herbert threw at us we managed to limit the damage. We dictated the pace and forced them to try to play our game, and if you do that you will have success in any sport you play. I was extremely happy with our effort and work ethic in that game.” Danielle Bauml paced the Lancers with 23. Miranda Redekop and Miranda Haughian each scored 14 to lead the Laurels (coached by Randy McCulloch), who also included Alisha Beach, Ricky Doyle, Kristen Jahnke, Syd Seib and Rachel Selke.

In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Kenaston Trojans edged the 3rd-seeded Lake Lenore Lancers 61-60. “It was a tense game right from start to finish,” said Kenaston coach Gene Zdunich. “It was real close. There were quite a few lead changes and we were four points down with about a minute left and (point guard) Eve Ulmer hit a three. Then somebody travelled on Lake Lenore and Eve took the ball to the basket and hit both of her foul shots with about 17 seconds left. They called a timeout and advanced the ball and (centre) Maria Matovich blocked a shot just on the edge of the key with time running out and we won by one.” Shae-Lynn Evans paced the Trojans with 17. The Kodiaks led 13-12 after one quarter and 28-16 at the half as their man-to-defence forced a series of turnovers. They maintained a 42-30 lead after three quarters as the Avengers continued to miss gimme layups. “We played pretty well,” said Kodiaks coach Gene Zdunich. “We controlled their players that we knew we needed to control and scored when we had to. We had the lead throughout. They took a run at us a couple of times, but they never got the lead. It was an exciting season. We didn’t play very much because we only have eight players, three of which are in Grade 8. We only played 23 games before playoffs just to try and keep our players fresh and avoid injuries and sickness from getting run down too much.” Avengers coach Trevor Ostig said “we were having trouble scoring and we missed too many shots. I think it would have been a different story in that game had we made some of those inside shots… We just kept rimming them out and nothing seemed to be going our way. (Our) shooting was pretty good from the outside, which it had not been previously. “They had a really good game and they are a good defensive team. For us to get as many hooks as we did inside, I was pretty happy.” Maria Matovich paced the Kodiaks with 20. Ann Ulmer added 15. Heather Martin led the Avengers with 17. Rayna Olynuk added 6 and Grayson Berting 6.
