Our top scorer from the night before (forward Steven Sira) had four fouls before the first half, so I had to pull him and then he fouled out in the second half. Our top scorer from this game (centre Josh Anderson) had four fouls as well, so it was tough.” Anderson added that his was more of a “football team playing basketball,” but as the season progressed, they became a real threat. “When we got to the end here, if we could of put it all together we would have been dangerous, but at the end we faltered. It represented the Reapers seventh consecutive provincial, the previous six at the 1A level. “We always look up at the banners at the beginning of the year and (ask), ‘Can we do one more?’“ head coach Joel Wells said. “It’s been a lot of hard work and definitely satisfying. Anytime you can do something that’s never been done before, that feels pretty good.” Wells added that grade 11 guard Atlee Simon was exceptional. “He averaged well over 30 points a game for us. He had several games in the 50s. We played the best schools in Regina this year – he had 51 against (5A champion) LeBoldus, for example. He’s been the engine that makes it all work, for sure.” The Reapers led 36-23 at the half and 52-32 after three quarters. “Now we want to keep adding to it,” Wells said of the seven-year streak, “so that it gets harder for somebody to catch us one day.” The Swift Current 4A girls’ team holds the overall record of eight provincial titles in a row (1984-1991). “After a while, we just expect ourselves to win. It’s always a privilege to get back to Hoopla,” Atlee Simon told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. “We’ve been so blessed over the years – great coach, great players and we haven’t always been the biggest or best-skilled, but we always find a way to win and knowing that we won seven in a row in the province is just amazing knowing how small the school is. It’s hard to put into words because it’s not heard of most of the time. Seven in a row is a lot.” Atlee Simon led the Reapers with 25. Daniel Felix added 16. Jarrett Allen led the Marauders with 13. Chad Terry added 12 and Ty Grambo 12.
