In the final, the Caronport Cougars defeated the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones 74-66 as Jerry Wolverton scored 26. Kyle Grant led Moose Jaw with 22. It was the 7th meeting between the squads on the season so there were no surprises. The Cougars jumped out to a huge lead and fought off the Cyclones down the stretch to claim their second provincial title in three years. “We know what they do and they know what we do. All I had to write on the blackboard before the game was whoever works hardest will win,” Caronport coach Gib Hinz told the Regina Leader-Post. The game was a rematch of the 1997 and ’99 finals, both won by Central. Hinz said he knew the Cyclones weren’t going to give up their title easily. “We wanted to jump on them quickly and build something positive right from the start of the game. We didn’t want to give them any confidence because they’re a team that can run away in a hurry.” Caronport led by 18 in the second half before Central trimmed the lead to six with under three minutes left. “We had to keep the enthusiasm up and we lacked that for a few minutes in the second half,” Hinz said. “Fortunately, we were able to make the plays and hit the shots when we needed in the last couple of minutes.”
