       In the Canadian championships, the Richmond Merchants defeated the host Hamilton Tigerettes 45-48; 48-38; 45-43; 54-30 (3g-1). The Merchants were essentially the Vancouver Eilers with a new sponsor. Shirley Topley and Zoe Shepherd had previously played on 6 title teams.

In game one, the Merchants suffered their first loss in 28 games as they fell 48-45. Richmond led 22-20 at the half but Quigley moved ahead 40-33 after three quarters. Buckets by Shirley Topley and Zoe Shepherd trimmed the margin to four and then Nora McDermott hit a free throw to give Vancouver a 45-44 lead. But Mary MacDonald, import guard from Toronto’s Varsity Grads, stole the ball and raced for a layup giving the Tigerettes a 46-45 lead. They iced it with two free throws. For Hamilton: Hall; Otrosina; Boots Spurr 15, Martyn 3, Park; Collins; Lorna Messecar 5; Hawley; Margy Deas 9, MacDonald 18. For Richmond: Shelagh Farrell; Joan Lorenz 5; Malesh; Dolfo; Lennie McGiveron; Zoe Shepherd 12; Marj Whitehead; Shirley Topley 14; and Nora McDermott 3.

       In game two, Richmond outscored the Tigerettes 19-7 in the final 10 minutes to collect a 48-38 win. Nora McDermott led Richmond with 16. Joan Lorenz added 10, Zoe Shepherd 10, McGiveron 5, Farrell 4 and Topley 3, while Malesh, Balfor and Whitehead were scoreless. Boots Spurr and Lorna Messecar paced Hamilton with 9 each. Deas added 6, Hall 4, Hawley 4, Martyn 3 and McDonald 3, while Otrosina, Park, Collins and Toth were scoreless.

       In game three, Richmond prevailed 45-43. Hamilton led 19-17 after one quarter and maintained their lead through to the final quarter. The Tigerettes were ahead 43-42 with four minutes to go and held off Richmond until the last minute when Zoe Shepherd nabbed a long pass and split the Hamilton defence to score a bucket that gave the Merchants the lead. Shepherd finished with 16 points while Joan Lorenz added 13, Shirley Topley 8, Marj Whitehead 5, Nora McDermott 5 and Lennie McGiveron 2, while Shelagh Farrell, Laura Malesh and Norma Dolfo were scoreless. Hamilton was paced by Lorna Messecar’s 17 and Margy Deas 10. Boots Spurr added 6, Hawley 5, MacDonald 5 and Hall 2, while Clark, Collins, Martyn and Otrosina were scoreless.

       In game four, Topley led the Merchants to an easy 54-30 victory scoring 15, including 8 in the first half. Nora McDermott added 13 while Lennie McGiveron and Zoe Shepherd each scored 7, Whitehead 4, Farrell 2, Joan Lorenz 2 and Malesh 2, while Dolfo was scoreless. Mary McDonald paced Hamilton with 10. Marg Deas added 8, Lorna Messecar 6, Boots Spurr 3, Collins 2 and Hall 1, while Osirosina, Martyn, Park and Hawley were scoreless.
